Prepare Your Door and Tools

Before you start any installation, you need to verify your door is compatible and gather the right equipment.

Most smart locks are built for doors between 1 3/8 inches and 2 inches. Measuring this thickness correctly is important because if the door is too thin, the lock will not hold securely. On the other hand, if it is too thick, the parts may not connect correctly. Additionally, backset measurement refers to the distance from the edge of the door to the centre of the bore hole. Choose the Right Smart Lock Type

Align the external pieces on the door. Secure them with the provided screws. Fit the inner mechanism on the opposite side, checking that all parts are well aligned.

For keypad locks, proper alignment is critical. Place the electronic keypad in the hole on the outside of the door. Make sure the front keypad is aligned before fixing the screws tightly.

Install and Test Batteries

Place the batteries in the designated compartment. Once powered, the keypad will illuminate with a white light to indicate power activation. This confirms that the lock's sensors, camera, and motor are operational.

Test the mechanical operation next. Manually test the thumbturn mechanism to ensure the deadbolt moves smoothly. If the bolt is stiff or catches, there's likely a misalignment issue to address before proceeding.

Download the App and Configure Settings

Open the App Store or Google Play and search for your lock's official app, and install it. Once installed, launch the app and either create or log into your account.

Tap "Add Device" and scan the QR code printed on the interior assembly. The app will use Bluetooth to automatically detect your smart lock and guide you through the initial setup. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect your new smart lock securely to your wifi home network, which will enable remote access, video streaming, and firmware updates down the line.

This typically involves downloading the corresponding smartphone app and following the on-screen instructions to pair your smart lock with your mobile device. Once paired, you can customize settings such as access permissions, user codes, auto-locking preferences, and notifications to suit your needs.

Test All Functions Thoroughly

Do not skip testing before relying on your lock daily. Basic testing (5 min) involves lock/unlock 5× manually + app + keypad. Full testing (20 min) involves 50 operations all methods, alignment check, auto-lock verify, battery/signal status.

Battery Replacement

A smart lock battery typically lasts between 3 months and 1 year depending on usage, connectivity type, and environment. Wi-Fi locks drain faster, while Bluetooth models last longer. Replace batteries every 6–12 months.

Mixing different battery brands or types is not recommended for smart locks. Different batteries can have varying voltage levels and discharge rates, which can lead to inconsistent performance, faster battery drain, or even damage to the lock.

Keep Firmware Updated

Firmware updates help improve your smart lock experience by optimizing system performance, enhancing connectivity stability, and reducing unnecessary battery consumption. Monitor Settings and Access

Troubleshooting Installation Issues

Most problems stem from physical misalignment rather than electronic failure. If the bolt does not move freely before installation, the smart lock motor may struggle, drain batteries faster, or fail to calibrate properly.

If your door doesn't align properly after installation, close the door once, then open it and inspect the strike plate. It may need to be moved a bit, or the hole can be enlarged with a file or rotary tool.
